L'Albatros
2013
This video captures an intimate family moment: the dinner. The dinner moment is a good opportunity for small talk, changing ideas and also for spending some time together and getting to know each other better. Although the dinner doesn't seem in this situation a sacred and ceremonious event, it can be taken as the ritual of a family getting together around the table and strengthening the binds between generations.
During the dinner, Baudelaire's poem "L'Albatros" is recited in French and explained to a four year old child by his grandparent. It is a symbolical gesture of passing ones knowledge to another, a gesture charged with the romanticism and nostalgia of a francophone generation; the information is partially assimilated by the child, being instead more of an occasion for his grandparent to bring back memories.
